The Awakening by Julian Garner ran at Jack Studio Theatre in 2016 for 3 weeks. This Ibsen Prize winning play originally premiered in the UK at Hampstead Theatre in 1990.
I was interested in exploring the themes of rehabilitation in the community and redemption after a troubled young man commits an unforgivable crime. I reworked the play to be set in an imagined parallel version of Norway. Deliberately anachronistic, I draw heavily on the Scandi-Noir TV aesthetic.
The Awakening was nominated for OFFIES in Best Design, Best Sound Design, Best Lighting and Best Male Performance, and Broadway World Awards for Best Fringe Production and Best Female Performance in a play.
