Gobble Gobble Gobble Gobble Goblin
by Tim Foley

Gobble Gobble Gobble Gobble Goblin, was developed over 2020/21 as part of the Old Vic 12 scheme in association with Shoreditch Town Hall. When the full production of the show was cancelled due to COVID 19, we decided to make a digital pitch deck for the show in order to share with venues for future programming.

Set as a provocation by my mentor, Lyndsey Turner, in which she asked me to take on Aphra Behn's The Rover and adapt it, I have transposed the story to London's Soho in 1960 and combined the original play with the 'beat' scene, drawing on elements of social, political and youth culture movements of the period.

Kindly supported by a bursary from MGCfutures, my aim is to tackle head-on the more problematic elements of the original play; namely the violence against women, issues of class, portrayal of sex workers and the patriarchal constructs of a period, while drawing  parallels between the sexual revolution of the 60's and attitudes to women and female desire today.
